Renowned for improving flexibility, precision, alignment and strength, the tradition of Iyengar yoga taught
by Francois Raoult opens the gateway to the heart. The workshop will give you the opportunity to explore yogic
philosophy in a practical way through the experience of dynamic postures, the depth of restorative postures, the
practice of harmonic chanting and deep breathing.
Friday: Asana as sacred architecture. The vertical axis. Tadasana, the sacred mountain. Standing poses. Session
will end with pranayama suitable for late evening practice (ujjayi and bhramari).
Saturday morning: The roots of asana. Feet and ankles, patterns in various asana cycles. Toning the arches,
exploring pronation/supination, liberating the toes.
Saturday afternoon: Inversions as urdhva tadasana. Effortless effort in asana. Restorative poses. Pranayama
(vilomas) and yoga nidra with sacred music from both western and eastern traditions.
Sunday: The abdominal wall in asana. Exploring the beliefs about the hard/soft belly polarity. Abdominal muscles
as stabilizer and/or breathers? Navasana cycles, arm balances, uddhyana and mula bandha. Short tea break, then
pranayama, savasana, overtone chanting with OM will conclude the weekend.
This is a rare opportunity to study with a master teacher. Teachers and students from all traditions are welcome.
François Raoult is dedicated to teaching yoga with awareness, integrity and compassion. He first felt the call at age
19, on a pilgrimage to sacred sites of India. A graduate of the Ecole Nationale de Yoga in Paris, he started teaching
in 1975 and a year later began extensive training with Sri B.K.S. Iyengar. Today a certified Iyengar instructor,
François also has studied meditation with Zen Master Thich Nhat Hanh, Ayurveda with Dr. Robert Svoboda, and
anatomy with Thomas Myers. In addition to conducting an annual retreat in France, François teaches regularly
throughout the US, Europe, Canada, Mexico and India. He is the director of Essential Yoga Teacher TrainingTM— a
creative program for yoga teachers — and the founder of Open Sky Yoga Center in Rochester, NY.
Cancellations before March 28 will be refunded less a $15 administration fee. No refunds for cancellations
