Kath Davis
Kath has been teaching since 1995 in physical therapy clinics, studios, community centers, and colleges. She has worked with a broad range of individuals, from children to senior citizens—some badly injured, others Olympics-bound. Her journey with the body-mind began over twenty years ago, when she studied dance and Asian philosophy in college. After receiving her BA in Dance from Scripps College, she went on to earn several teaching certificates in Pilates, from Performing Arts Physical Therapy/The Pilates Studio, Romana’s Pilates, and Authentic Pilates. In 1996, she participated for one year in a graduate dance program at Mills College, where she studied kinesiology and pedagogy in depth. In 2005, Kath completed the Advanced Studies Program at Piedmont Yoga Studio; and in 2009, the Mindfulness Yoga and Meditation Training Program at Spirit Rock Meditation Center. In 2010, she graduated from a four-year program in Traditional Yoga Studies, under the tutelage of Georg Feuerstein, PhD.
Kath’s interest in teaching lies in unlocking the potential of the interconnected body-mind-spirit. Her approach is heavily influenced by her study of anatomy, and the years she spent working one-on-one with recovering physical therapy patients. She helps her students modify poses as appropriate, while empowering them to trust the wisdom offered by their own bodies, moment-to-moment, in class. Spiritually, Kath is guided by her long-term practice of Vipassana Meditation. She strives to infuse her teaching with a broad-minded and kind-hearted awareness, fostering an atmosphere that is earnest, respectful, warm, and inclusive.
