Sandra Safadirazieli
Safadirazieli originally came to yoga in1997 to find a way to ease pain associated with scoliosis. She quickly discovered that asana practice not only helped her feel better in her body, but was great training for her mind and inspirational for her spirit.
Sandra experienced many years of frustration trying to find a way to ease the pain of her scoliosis. She began teaching in the hope that others would not have such a difficult experience. She graduated from the Piedmont Yoga Studio’s Advanced Studies 1 ½ year program in 2001and studied in Pune with the Iyengars in 2007. She is registered with Yoga Alliance as a RYT 500 and is a member of the California Yoga Teachers Association. She is certified by Elise Miller as a Yoga for Scoliosis Trainer. She also holds a teacher certification in Yoga and Jewish Spirituality from the Institute of Yoga and Jewish Spirituality.
Sandra enjoys yoga as a lifelong practice of exploration and is grateful to her many teachers including Elise Miller, Donald Moyer, Mary Paffard, Ramanand Patel, Richard Rosen and Jin Sung.
She believes that applying the insights gained in yoga practice to everyday habits of movement can lead to greater freedom and comfort, and ultimately a more fulfilling life. In addition, she finds yoga is a particularly powerful practice because it is a method by which individuals can have an active role in taking care of themselves. As an avid soccer player she firmly believes that yoga has and will help her to keep on kicking for many years. As an anthropologist she is keenly aware of how cultural messages affect our body image, and ultimately our experience living in and with our bodies.

Sandra is happy to share two new projects with the PYS community:
Moving with Morning Blessings: A Guided Yoga Practice with Jewish Song and Prayer is an audio yoga practice co-created with cantorial soloist Shulamit Wise Fairman. The CD is easily accessible for people who would like a gentle yoga practice that is accompanied by soothing music. It will be especially of interest to people who would like to deepen their connection to Jewish prayer through embodied practice. It is available online or directly from Sandra.
Yogic Classical Revolution is an opportunity to experience live classical music in the non-traditional environment of Piedmont Yoga Studio. YCR was born from a love of classical music and a distaste for having to sit in a chair while listening to it. Yoga student Paul Yeager and other talented string musicians play selections from Bach, Boccherini, Brahms, and others while listeners have the opportunity to move in any way they chose: practicing active asana, hanging on the slings, or finding a restorative pose. We meet the first Sunday of the month 7:30-9:30 pm. Check Sandra’s website for holiday schedules.
